President, VHSAA Inc.

It has been a long time in coming but we will finally have our own Alumni-oriented products (shirts, cups, tumblers, hoodies, etc.). I think you will like the logo and keep in mind, this is just a start and suggestions and ideas will be sought and encouraged by a committee in the future. It'll give dues paying members a chance to share their artistic ideas that demonstrate pride in our alma mater. All graduates will be able to interact with a website through "B5 Studio Designs" and you may customize ("Class year; name") your item(s), pay for them, and either pick them up at their site (local) or we will have them for you at our monthly board meeting a the Southwest Library. We might be able to get you signed up or renewed as an annual member! The link to the Alumni-spirit wear and products will be posted soon!

I'd also like to encourage you to help our young Viking Sophomores with Western Kentucky University's "Dual Credit Chemistry" program. This is a scholarship we provide that enables these students to earn college credit prior to their Junior and Senior years with WKU. After their Sophomore year, they qualify for financial aid through WKU. This is precisely the kind of goal the VHSAA was created to accomplish. We have set a suspense date of May 1st and our fund target is $5000. Alumni...I'll be honest, we're woefully short of that right now and I ask that you please consider helping as you are able.

Time is almost up on receiving nominations to the Valley High School Hall of Fame. The time period ends this month (March) and we have received no nominations. The Board of Directors as a whole does not do nominations, they are an individual responsibility. Our committee takes a very careful approach to reviewing submissions, you need to ensure you have supported the nomination in detail and that endorsements aren't copied or plagiarized. Please review the criteria on the website, download the form, and get it to us quickly.

Since the Covid-era, our board meetings have basically been in house and among the directors themselves. We have had a few visitors at times and our meeting times and location have changed over time. We meet the 3rd Monday of the month at 10:00 AM in the Southwest Library on Dixie Highway.

I'd like to recognize some Alumni who have brought great credit upon themselves and our Valley High School. Class of '94 graduate...and Class of 2015 Hall of Fame Member, Tenesha Blakey Marshall, was featured in JCPS's recent "I Am JCPS" segment. Check it out on Facebook, Tenesha is a proud, outstanding, and professional Viking alum! The long search for how to finally get ourselves our own spirit-wear and Alumni things comes courtesy of Class of '79 member, Patsy Smith Fitzpatrick! One of our newest graduates, Class of 2023 member, Shiana McGuire, has offered to help us "old folks!" with online forms development and helping us get current with connecting into the 21st Century. Shy and the Valley "Vike Squad" have been a big help.

Go Vikings!

Joe
