Inaugural Class - Class of 1987

J.C. Cantrell (1914–2002). Graduate of Western Kentucky University and the University of Louisville (Master’s Degree). Editor or the Western Kentucky yearbook. Served in WWII as a Lieutenant Commander (USN)—Invasion of Sicily and the Philippines. First Valley High School Hall of Fame Inductee. Served Valley High School for 24 years as a teacher, basketball coach, athletic director, and assistant principal, and for 14 years as principal. Established the 1st Naval Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (NJrROTC) program in Kentucky at Valley High School. Deputy Superintendent of Instruction, Jefferson County Public Schools. Gymnasium built in 1963 was named in his honor 1987; present day 2012 Arena/Gymnasium carries Mr. Cantrell’s name.
